I'm sure I'm not the only one whose interest in local growth has been raised by the specter of the Commerce Corridor. Next week offers three meetings for those wanting to sink their teeth into local growth issues here in Bellingham and Whatcom County. They'll also offer some insight into the context for the Commerce Corridor fantasy being peddled by local officials of all pinstripes.
Pro-Whatcom has their quarterly meeting Monday, August 23, 7:00 pm, Bellingham Senior Center at 315 Halleck St. Their guest will be Hal Hart, Whatcom County Planning Director who will speak on "Growth Control: Is Whatcom County Doomed to Become Another Lynnwood (or Los Angeles)?"
If that weren't enough two of the last three City of Bellingham's repeating Neighborhood growth forums will be the following Tuesday and Wednesday. People from all areas of the city are encouraged to attend.
Forum #1 Tuesday, August 24th at 7 p.m. Fairhaven Library, 1117 12th St.,
Forum #2 Wednesday, August 25th at 7 p.m. Fairhaven Library, 1117 12th St.,
Forum #3 Meridian, Guide Meridian To Be Determined
More about the forum from the City of Bellingham:
Over the next 20 years, around 62,000 people are expected to move to Whatcom County. That's a nearly 40% increase over today’s population! How can residents sustain or improve the quality of life they currently enjoy? The Bellingham Community Forum on Growth Management is designed to help meet this challenge. Cosponsored by the City of Bellingham, Whatcom County and the Whatcom Transportation Authority, the forum will highlight and gather feedback on creative, localized options for Bellingham’s future. Results will directly influence updates to the City of Bellingham’s Comprehensive Plan and Whatcom County's Urban Growth Area (UGA).More info at http://www.studiocascade.com/bhm_abt_project.html
